Raija has a wilderness guide´s education and has worked with many different kinds of groups: scouts, church employees and other eager people who have wanted to learn wilderness skills. Raija has been a scout leader for thirty years and she has established three scout troops in Lapland.
Raija got into the World Record Book of Guiness in 1987 when she designed and realized the Uniscout skiing event from Kilpisjärvi to Tornio, with a four-member team in forty four hours. Because of this, she got her nickname Raija-Ski, or Raiski. Raija has been participating in the Finnish Championship hikes since 1994, her best achievement so far being the sixth. Practical experience as well as participation in different courses have made her a qualified and competent wilderness guide.
